DOMAIN ARCHAEA
The Domain Archaea are prokaryotes, meaning their cells do not have nuclei in which their DNA is stored. They are any of a group of single-celled organisms and are mostly composed of cells that live in extreme environments, such as hot springs and submarine hydrothermal vents.
These have distinct characteristics that differ them from bacteria and eukaryotes, the other and more notable domain of prokaryotes and eukaryotes, respectively.
However, the latter does possess a clearly defined nucleus. [39]
The Domain Archaea possesses three main groups of Archaea: extreme halophiles (adapted to and grows in saline conditions), methanogens (methane producing organism), and hyperthermophiles (lives in and is adapted to very hot environments). [37]
An example of an Archaean is the Crenarchaeota. These are thermophilic or hyperthermophilic organisms, some of which have the ability to grow at up to 113 °C. [65]
Did you know...?
Most Archea are consumers, while some produce their own food like plants (autotrophs).
They can live in toxic climates, such as sulfur rich environments.
These reproduce asexually by binary fission [66]
